It may not look like but January is a month to get excited about fashion. The year has just started and the fashion world is already bubbling up with news. Check out our calendar:

JANUARY 12 TO 16: Menswear autumn/winter 2008-9 collections in Milan.

JANUARY 17 TO 20: Menswear moves on to Paris.

JANUARY 21 TO 24: Paris remains the focus of the fashion world, showcasing the haute couture shows

JANUARY 28: Tophop unveils the latest designer capsule collections, from the studios of Christopher Kane, Marios Schwab, Todd Lynn and Richard Nicoll.

FEBRUARY 1 TO 8: New York kicks off the women’s ready-to-wear shows. Scottish designer Jonathan Saunders will show in the Big Apple for the first time, while Halston will make its long-awaited 21st Century debut.

FEBRUARY 6: Gucci throws a star-studded party in New York to celebrate the opening of its new flagship store.

FEBRUARY 7 TO 17: The 58th Berlin International Film Festival will see Australian supermodel Gemma Ward take to the red carpet for the premiere of her new film, The Black Balloon, in which she plays a character helping her boyfriend come to terms with his brother's autism.

FEBRUARY 10 TO 16: London Fashion Week takes centre stage.
