McQueen: A tribute to Isabella Blow
Alexander McQueen devoted his show on saturday to his mentor, the
designer, whose talent was discovered by Blow brought to the catwalk a giant
wing and feathers, probably underlining the idea that Blow is now with the
angels. With a flutter of butterflies encasing her head as a fantasy hat and
with a severely fitted dress, it could have been the late Isabella Blow walking
down runway.
"She influenced me a great deal - her personal style, her emotion and
her fragility," said McQueen. "She had great style, exuberance and
imagination - and I hope that came through in the show."
The chiffon dresses were soft and beautiful, but the models struggled down
the runway on teetering platforms, showing that McQueen's harsh attitude to
women has not changed.
